![]() In this paper, it was compared the results between two techniques with the commercial software for 15 beams. The computer program developed was created using the Matlab 2016a GUIDE software, along with an interface that provides the user with easier manipulation. This will allow the results to be compared to the results of the CYPECAD 2015 commercial software. An implementation of techniques such as Genetic Algorithm and Sequential Quadratic Programing were developed based on the restrictions on geometry, resistance, maximum displacement and specific usage. This research has the objective of presenting optimization problem formulation for steel structures with I shape, based on the Brazilian standard ABNT NBR 8800:2008. As such, the combination of optimization techniques together with a process of design makes it a valuable instrument. An optimum design offers the ideal solution, seeking the lowest cost with reliability and quality in the results.
